I Wish I Could
We often find ourselves uttering the words, “I wish I could.”
“I wish I could travel more.”
“I wish I could start my own business.”
“I wish I could spend more time with my family.”
But sometimes, we don’t realize that by the time we really want to, it’s already too late.
We waste time like we’ll live forever. We spend money like we’ll never run out. And we take our health for granted—until it turns its back on us.
Let me tell you a story…
Ramesh was the go-getter type. He worked 14-hour days at a corporate job in a metro city. Everyone admired his dedication, his fancy car, his frequent overseas trips. His phone never stopped buzzing. "Meetings", he would say, smiling as he skipped meals or canceled weekend plans.
His wife often told him, "You need to slow down. You hardly eat properly, your sugar levels are rising, and you're always tired."
But Ramesh would shrug it off—"I don’t have time for this now. Once I retire at 50, we’ll travel the world. I’ll rest then. Right now, I need to secure our future."
So he kept working, investing in gadgets, upgrading cars, building wealth—but neglecting sleep, skipping check-ups, and ignoring the chest pains that had started becoming frequent.
One evening, while giving a presentation in a conference room filled with applause, Ramesh collapsed. A massive heart attack.
He survived—but barely.
Post-surgery, lying in a hospital bed, he looked out of the window and whispered to his wife, “I wish I could go back and take care of myself. I wish I could eat home-cooked food, take evening walks, laugh more, and worry less.”
But it was too late. His lifestyle had taken its toll.
Time, money, and health are the three pillars of a balanced life. When you're young, you often trade your health for money. Later, you end up spending that money trying to buy back your health.
But health isn’t a product you can buy. It's a gift you maintain.
So here’s a reminder:
-
Don’t waste time on things or people that don’t matter.
-
Don’t waste money on showing off—invest in experiences, not excess.
-
Take care of your health like your future depends on it—because it does.
If you’re reading this, you still have the time to make changes. You still have the choice.
Let’s not wait until we’re forced to say, “I wish I could.”
Let’s start saying, “I’m glad I did.”
